Mother's Day History
The origin of Mother's Day can be linked to both the ancient Greek empire's spring festival dedicated to mother goddesses and England's mid-Lent Mothering Sunday. However, Anna Jarvis is credited for establishing Mother's Day interest in the United States. Anna Jarvis, a minister's daughter who never married, missed her mother greatly after her passing and wanted to show appreciation by having a day dedicated to all mothers. Anna hoped Mother's Day would increase respect for parents and strengthen family bonds. After writing countless congressmen and influential people, President Woodrow Wilson issued a proclamation in May of 1913, making Mother's Day an official national holiday.

Tech Tip: How to Take a Picture of Your Desktop

For PC Users:
In Windows, press the Print Screen key (or "Print Scrn") on the upper righthand side of your keyboard. This step saves the screen image to your clipboard. Now, open a desktop design program such as Paint (found under Start/Programs/Accessories) or Photoshop. Then, choose Edit/Paste to paste the image into the open document. Finally, simply save the file, and you're done!

For Mac Users:
Capture your desktop by pressing Shift + Command + 3. (Listen for the sound effect.) The picture will be stored as a file called "Picture 1" on your hard disk.
