LIGHTNING PROTECTION
Summer
is thunderstorm season in our part of the country, and lightning strikes are a
common occurrence. The National
Weather Service recommends that you disconnect all telephones, computers and
other appliances during a thunderstorm, and only use the telephone in case of
emergency.
For
more information visit Surf.Atlantic.Net
and do a Web Search for "Lightning Safety".
In
addition, we recommend that you have an approved surge protector installed on
your phone line. Surge protectors
are inexpensive devices, obtainable from any home improvement store, which may
decrease the potential for damage to your modem and other electronic equipment
should a lightning strike occur.
After
the storm, if you experience the error message "no dial tone" while
attempting to connect to your Internet account, it is possible that you have
taken a lightning strike to your modem. Verify that the phone line is properly
plugged in to your computer, and if so, contact your computer's manufacturer or
your local repair shop. For a list
of computer stores in your area, please click
here.
