Tech Tip
: Take Your Files With You
So you're tired of lugging around that eight-pound laptop when you travel, but you still have work to do. Sure, you could store your information on a CD or floppy disk and carry that around. But what if you can't find the right drive or your disk gets lost or damaged when you need it most?

No need to fear, Atlantic.Net is here! If you subscribe to the Unlimited access plan (just $19.95/mo.), you have 15 megabytes of personal Web space to use any way you want — including saving all your favorite files in one place for easy access anytime you need them.

• In the address bar of your Internet browser, type 'ftp://username.members.atlantic.net' and in place of ‘username’ type in your username (the part of your e-mail address that comes before the '@' sign).
• From the pulldown menu, select File, Login As, then type in your username and password and click Log On. You can also access the Login by right-clicking in the browser window.
• Now click on Folders and find the files you want to move. In your Folders directory, you'll notice a new folder in your list named 'username.members.atlantic.net.' This is your online member folder where you can copy and paste or drag the files you want to save.
Caution: Although this is your personal Web space, it is possible for anyone who knows your Web address to view these files. Do not store private files here that you don't wish others to see.

Want to access your site and view your files?
• In the address bar of your Internet browser, type 'http://username.members.atlantic.net' and in place of ‘username’ type in your username.
• Your files should appear in a list that also includes the date modified, file size, and a description.

Now you can view your files without having to carry them around. You can also send yourself e-mails with your files attached. To view them, use Atlantic.Net's Webmail.

Secure Data, Connect Offices with a Private Network
Exchanging sensitive data between office locations can be secure and cost-effective. With a True Private Network (TPN) from Atlantic.Net, employees can share internal documents and customer information between locations over a fully-managed, private network. Plus, TPN can support multiple protocols including pure IP, frame relay, ATM, and IPX.

A True Private Network is right for your company if:
• You want a private network.
• You want a VPN solution without the hardware costs.
• You need committed bandwidth for specific applications such as thin-client networks, voice over IP, and point of sale.
• You exchange sensitive data over your network.

More secure than virtual private networks
With VPN, your data must be encrypted, because it travels along the same path as public data on the Internet. Conversely, data on a True Private Network passes through a totally private segment on the Atlantic.Net "pipe," much like a tunnel built alongside a busy interstate.

More cost-effective than VPN
Unlike VPN, True Private Networks are network-based and require no additional hardware and no upgrades. TPN also is fully managed by Atlantic.Net, so you can lower the cost of maintaining your network.

More reliable than VPN
True Private Networks are centrally managed by Atlantic.Net around the clock, so problems can be isolated and resolved quickly. Plus, since TPNs are network-based, you'll decrease the odds of equipment failure.

Better quality of service
Because all the endpoints on your private network are on Atlantic.Net, you have a single point of contact, and qualified engineers can resolve potential problems before they affect you.

Flexible and scalable
Atlantic.Net's TPN technology works with a variety of dedicated access methods, from DSL to point-to-point T-1/T-3. Also, because True Private Networks are not equipment-based like VPNs, they have no limitations on the number of sites that are connected and require no additional configuration changes as your network expands.
