Insomniac Blues

It can be most unforgiving in the summer months. No school means no having to get up in the morning and if fueled the desire to stay up late and sleep in longer.

It's a different when you have to be at work in the morning. Lack of sleep can seriously affect your abilities at work. It's a worldwide problem. Here's what you can do if you're falling asleep at your desk like back in middle school.

•Snacking
Although it's unhealthy to eat before you go to bed a light snack might do the trick. A small amount of turkey could send you to snoresville in no time.

•Soothe the Soul
Try listening to music that will put you to sleep. Perhaps you could add some new CDs to your collection like the ocean sounds or something else that will make you breathe easier.

•Activate Yourself
Exercising more and being more active will make you sleepier at the end of the day. It's common sense, but many people don't use their bodies' energy near the end of the day. Instead of sitting in front of the boob tube, go outside and play basketball.

•Use Your Bed for Sleeping
If you lay in bed all day you're not going to want to lay back in it to go to sleep. Try reducing the amount of napping you do during the day. The bottom line is not to take your bed for granted. Sleep sparingly and use your bed only when you really need it.

•No over fueling
You definitely don't want to drink a caffienated beverage before hitting the sack. Likewise, you should avoid other chemicals that affect your system before going to sleep.

•Try Again Later
It pretty much resembles the insomniac philosophy. A good rule of thumb is to get out of bed if you haven't fallen asleep after 30 minutes. You could try watching TV or reading, but make sure whatever you're doing is low impact because you don't want to wake yourself up completely.
