So you're hosting a party soon. Seems simple right? But
what if all your guests don't know each other, and no one
bothers to mingle, leaving you with a reputation as a lame
party host?
It takes a skilled party master to organize games to entertain
everyone. But before the games begin, your guests need to
get acquainted. Try these simple icebreakers to get your
party started right.
Food Works Wonders: Have everyone sit in a
circle and bring out a bowl filled with candy (Skittles
and M&Ms
work well). Pass the bowl around and tell everyone to take
as many pieces as they want. Before everyone gobbles the
goodies up, count their candies. For each piece they have,
they need to share a little-known fact about themselves.
Money Makes the Difference: This icebreaker
can work for an entire party or small groups. The host gives
everyone a penny. Then each person looks at the year on
their coin. Next, everyone takes turns sharing nostalgia
from that year. This can be anything from a milestone,
to a job, to where they lived at the time.
Spicing Things Up: Before the party, fill
several
plastic sandwich bags with different spices.
When guests arrive, pair them up and give them a bag. Have
each smell the spice and tell their partner what memories
the scent conjures up. Pass the bags around the room and
watch your guests savor an atmosphere awash in childhood
memories.
Famous for a Day: Tape the names of
famous
people to the backs of your guests. As everyone socializes
they can ask for clues, using only yes or no questions,
about their famous person. The first person to guess the
name on his or her back wins a prize.
It's All in the Cards: Place Trivial
Pursuit game cards around your home where guests will
see them. Tell each guest to find a card and to ask the
nearest person to answer the question.
