The Fashion Book

Hailed by Vogue as 'the fashion bible' and by Elle as 'the ultimate fashion reference book,' The Fashion Book takes a fresh look at the fashion world and the people who created it. Easy to use and filled with beautiful and memorable images, it is an A to Z guide to 500 key individuals — clothes and accessory designers, photographers, models and those iconic celebrities who instigated or symbolize a whole fashion movement.

Vogue: Twentieth-Century Fashion
This visually compelling resource on fashion for women as championed by Vogue magazine over the last 100 years will have limited relevance to most secondary school curricula. Profusely illustrated with full-color and black-and-white design sketches, artwork, and photography reproduced from the pages of that magazine, the set teems with florid prose: "Ever since Eve wore a fig leaf, fashion has been associated with two things: defining sexuality and committing outrageous behavior."

In with the Old, Out with the New

Yes, that's right. You did just see someone walk down the street wearing a baby doll dress. Stop rubbing your eyes. And, no, your best friend is not crazy for digging through her mom's closet looking for bell bottoms. She's just keeping up with the times because yesterday's
fashions are making a retro return.

And this time, instead of spanning just one decade, these retro fashions cover three. If you swear you just saw those old clothes you gave to Goodwill ten years ago adorning some model on the runway, you may be right. Check out these fashion comebacks that have gone from tacky to trendy.

Stiletto heels.
Back from the early 80s, these heels are stomping onto the fashion scene and lack of comfort hasn't stopped celebs such as Sarah Jessica Parker, Madonna, Halle Berry, and Lisa Ling from strapping them on.

• Bell Bottoms. These days, bell bottoms are known to many as "flare" jeans. The name may be different, but the concept is the same — slim and fitted through the thighs and flared at the bottom. Britney Spears sported a pair in her music video "I'm Not a Girl, Not Yet a Woman."

• Punk Hairstyles. Mohawks, spikes, crimping, and loud colors are a must in today's world of hair. The Osbourne kids sport perfect examples of this returning trend. Jack had a spiked mohawk last year, and Kelly has changed her hair from hot pink to vampire black in recent months.

Leg Warmers.
Not since the days of Footloose and Flashdance have leg warmers made such an impact. Not only are the gam warmers hot in the junior market, but even the upwardly mobile set is taking stock in this 80s trend. I can't believe these are popular again!

• The "Peasant" Look.
Blouses with billowy, soft-flowing sleeves and long peasant skirts carry a romantic look into the fashion world. Paired with a baby doll top and accessorized with fringed leather belts and beaded necklaces, these take us back to the 60s.

• Hot in Hawaii.
Although Jimmy Buffett fans may disagree, Hawaiian shirts have not always been in style. However, lately the Hawaiian print can be seen on everything from shorts to flip-flops.

• Staying Alive. Could John Travolta have predicted that the leisure suit he made popular in the early 70s would come back to life in the new millennium? Disco shirts and matching suits are back in the public eye. Like the Bee Gees, this trend is still kickin'.
