Fall TV Preview
|
 |
Every fall, each network tries to outdo
the others with its newest programs. And this year is no
different from the rest. Take a look at the best and worst
of the coming fall season ... and don't forget to tune into
your regular favorites.
The
Apprentice (NBC):
This new reality show allows 20 candidates
to vie for the opportunity to become an apprentice to a
master, the Trump-master that is. Yes, you read that right.
The interesting and extremely rich Donald
will be making guest appearances on this new show ... and
the winner will be given the opportunity to learn from him.
Sounds to me like they're running out of ideas for reality
programming.
Coupling
(NBC):
This racy new comedy follows the love lives of six thirty-somethings.
There has been a lot of controversy regarding this show
because of its extremely provocative nature. To put it simply,
the
coupling that goes on is not just limited to heterosexual
relationships.
Whoopi
(NBC):
In this new comedy, Whoopi
Goldberg stars as Mavis Rae, former singer turned hotel
owner. The commercials for this new show seemed to me to
depict that the show uses several racial stereotypes. This
startled me, but we'll see if this show does as well as
predicted once it airs on September 9th.
Hope
& Faith (ABC):
I'm not sure how Kelly
Ripa keeps her marriage and family life together when
she works on three different television shows. Her newest
comedy, co-starring Faith
Ford, is about two very dissimilar sisters trying to
make it together. And surprise, surprise, Ripa plays a former
soap opera star — what a stretch that must be for
Ripa to play.
Threat
Matrix (ABC):
This new drama seems to be taking cues from The
West Wing in that it takes stories from the headlines
and expands upon them. The show's characters try to prevent
terror attacks on America. It's hard to say if this show
will actually do well ... sometimes television can hit TOO
close to home.
SKIN
(FOX):
This new drama hasn't gotten much attention in the news,
but it actually looks like it could be a pretty interesting
series. It's about two teenagers who are in love, but whose
families will not let them be together. Sounds a little
like Romeo
and Juliet. From FOX.com: "SKIN is about sex and race.
SKIN is about politics. And most of all SKIN is about skin:
complexion, beauty, desire, attraction, obsession, and prejudice
in contemporary Los Angeles. "
Love
Again (FOX):
This new reality show gives divorced men and women the opportunity
to find love again. 'Nough said.
Joan
of Arcadia (CBS):
Starring Joe
Mantegna and Mary
Steenburgen, this new drama follows the life of a pretty
typical family who experiences many atypical happenings
— mainly their daughter's strange behavior which is
linked to her communication with God. This new show proves
that television is definitely becoming much more risky in
what they put out for everyone to watch.
Two
and a Half Men (CBS):
Charlie
Sheen is the star of this new comedy. This should say
enough. But who knows — this comedy, about a professional
bachelor (Sheen) whose life is turned upside down when his
brother and nephew move in with him, could actually do well.
