Gigli—Worst
Movie Ever?
Many critics called Gigli one of the
worst movies ever made, but their condemnation isn't entirely
justified. The movie's got plenty of problems, such as inconsistent
tone, gag-inducing dialogue, and a meandering plot that
fails to generate momentum over 124 minutes. And yet, this
character-based vehicle for Hollywood sweethearts Ben Affleck
and Jennifer Lopez is not without its charms: To begin with,
there's J-Lo, whose beauty and presence flourish despite
her ill-conceived role as a lesbian contract killer. Critics
were also wrong in saying Lopez lacks on-screen chemistry
with her off-screen beau; there are moments when they click,
but director Martin Brest's screenplay maintains sexual
confusion right up to an ending that's a total cop-out.

Year in Review
|
 |
Well, 2003 is quickly coming to a
close. So, it's time to remember some of the biggest events
over the past year. Some were shocking, some were sad,
and some were just plain pathetic. You be the judge.
Gigli
If you haven't heard of this movie, don't try to find
out any information about it. Just know that this was
quite possibly the worst movie ever made and that its
stars, Jennifer
Lopez and Ben
Affleck, will never live this mistake down for the
rest of their careers. If you've seen this movie, I am
sorry you wasted $5-7 on a movie ticket. Better luck next
time Jen and Ben.
Britney & Madonna?
The Video Music Awards on MTV are always a bit extreme,
but this year, they hit a new low: with Madonna
kissing Britney
Spears and then Christina
Aguilera on the lips. The media swarmed all over this
footage, but tended to only focus on the Madonna/Britney
kiss. The two continued their little "love affair"
in Britney's newest video.
Kobe
Bryant
OK, so athletes aren't always the most intelligent people,
but come on. Admitting to adultery, but denying sexual
assault, is one thing. Buying your wife a huge piece of
jewelry to make up for the fact that you're a moron is
not the brightest move. Sadly, it seemed to work on Bryant's
wife.
Jacko
I think Michael Jackson has made the Year in Review list
for the past decade or so. It always seems there is something
new to bash this man about. OK, so he's had a little too
much plastic surgery. But that seems to be the least of
his problems these days. Accused once again of molestation,
Michael Jackson
will soon be going to trial. Who knows how this case will
play out.
Dixie Chicks Speak Out
Sure, we're all entitled to say what's on our minds. It's
a little thing the government likes to call Freedom of
Speech. However, when you're performing in England, it's
not a wise idea to verbally bash the U.S. president just
because you want to. After the Dixie
Chicks' verbal suicide, many fans burned CDs and refused
to listen to their music. I have to say that I am one
of those fans. And the Chicks reached a new low when they
attacked fellow musician Toby Keith for his stance on
the situation.
The Newlyweds
If you're not familiar with this MTV
show starring Jessica Simpson and Nick Lachey, watch it,
if purely to laugh at the stupidity of Jessica Simpson.
Having your own TV show may help album sales (both singers
have new CDs out), but publicly displaying your lack of
common sense or intellect won't help you or your husband's
careers. Check out some of Jessica's words
of wisdom.
Celebrity Deaths
Some of the most notable celebrity deaths this year were
John Ritter, Robert Palmer, Elliot Smith, Johnny Cash,
Gregory Hines, Bob Hope, Barry White, Katherine Hepburn,
Gregory Peck, and Fred Rogers.
May-December Romances
The new trend in hollywood seems to
be older women dating much younger men. Take for instance,
Ashton Kutcher, 25, and Demi
Moore, 41, who have had a pretty serious relationship
over the last couple months. And don't forget the romance
of Justin Timberlake, 22, and Cameron Diaz, 30.
Saddam: Caught
On December 13, 2003, Saddam
Hussein was found and caught in Iraq after nine months
on the run. He was captured without a shot being fired
near a compound of outside his hometown of Tikrit. He
was found in a ventilated "spider hole" approximately
six to eight feet underground with its entrance camouflaged
with bricks and dirt. What a great way to end the year
...

Years Past
|
 |
While rummaging through my brain to think of all the wacky
things that happened this year, I thought of several things
I swore happened in the past year but actually happened
more than two years ago. It's amazing how time flies. Remember
these crazy celebrity happenings?
Winona Ryder: the Shoplifter Actress Winona
Ryder was arrested on December 12, 2001, for shoplifting
over $5,000 worth of merchandise from Saks Fifth Avenue.
This doesn't make much sense to me, considering Ryder is
worth millions. Maybe she just wanted the attention??
Halle Berry — Hit and Run In February
of 2000, Halle Berry was charged in a hit and run accident
after she fled from the scene. She was later sued by the
person she hit. Not much was said about the accident or
following allegations.
Glitter
Before Gigli, there was Glitter, starring
none other than Mariah Carey. Oh, wait, you don't remember
this movie? Good, because if you saw it you lost two hours
of your life that you will never get back! Some people should
just stick to what they are good at, and in Mariah's case,
that's singing.
Nicolas Cage and Lisa Marie Presley In a perfectly
Hollywood length romance, Nicolas Cage and Lisa Marie Presley
married and divorced within four months. The odd match seemed
to have more to do with Nic's fascination with Elvis than
his infatuation with Lisa. Go figure.
Aaliyah's Plane Crash
In August of 2001, the world was shocked with news that
singer Aaliyah's plane crashed and killed all on board.
The talented singer was only 22.
9-11-01
It's hard to believe that this fateful day happened over
two years ago. A day that will live on in infamy, a day
that shocked the world and still sends chills down my spine.
This will forever be a day when everyone remembers what
they were doing when those planes crashed into the towers.
